The ages of fourteen through eighteen (14-18) are some of the most formative years in a young persons life - these are the ages where one begins to form and decide who they are as a person and what they want to be. Decisions and choices made during these years can have impacts that last a lifetime. Habits are formed that can be difficult to change or break.
Through the creation of the Youth Mentoring Program our organization hopes to be able to work with youth during these formative years, and to provide lessons and opportunity that will guide the youth to success.
The Youth Mentoring Program was created to work with youth in the most formative years of their lives - we aim to connect youth with an adult mentor in our organization that will work with the young adult over a period of four (4) years. We hope that this commitment, from both the young adult and adult, can lead to a lasting relationship that will allow the youth to truly commit to themselves, and their community.
Throughout their time in this program the mentor will meet with the youth on a regular basis throughout their high school career, providing the student with access to Community Youth Services Inc. resources and to help the student achieve in their education, prepare for their future via job skills training/career exploration, and to secure their own success via financial literacy lessons and goal planning exercises.
Through community service projects, and training opportunities youth will develop closer ties with their communities. As youth approach their senior year they will have a firmer understanding of what they want - and Community Youth Services Inc. is prepared to guide them in their next steps - whether that is securing further education opportunities, or the first steps of a new career.
It is our hope that this commitment - from both the youth and our organization, will provide a secure foundation leading to success, happiness, and a stronger commitment to our community.
